The acid mantle is a very fine, slightly acidic film (with pH value of 5.3-5.5) on the surface of human skin acting as a barrier to bacteria, viruses and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin. Sebum is secreted by the sebaceous gland and when mixed with sweat becomes the acid mantle

Which pH soap is best for skin?

“Maintaining a normal pH value of 5.3-5.5 is essential, otherwise the protective anti-aging layer of the skin depletes and our skin becomes more prone to allergies and rashes.

Why is pH 5.5 good for skin?

The pH of water is 7 which is neutral. Normal, healthy skin has a pH of 5.5 which is slightly acidic and Ultrafresh products also have a pH of 5.5. pH 5.5 leads to soft and smooth skin, aids in skin renewal and imparts a healthy glow to the skin and guards skin from infections.

Because products with a low pH are at a level closer to skin's natural pH, they will more effectively work with your skin and help cell turnover gently, King says. They're more likely to keep skin bright and smooth, instead of flaky and angry. However, certain products can be too low of a pH for skin and irritate it.

Is high pH (alkali soap) good for skin?

In addition to drying out skin, products that are too alkaline (pH 9-11) increase skin sensitivity, inflammation and also inhibit the skin's ability to ward off matrix metalloproteinases (MPPs), the enzymes that destroy collagen and cause wrinkles and sagging.

What is the pH of aloe vera?

What is the pH of face cream?

In diseases such as acne, atopic dermatitis, intertrigo, and irritant contact dermatitis, soaps and creams that have a pH of 4.5 to 6.5 should be recommended to restore the acid mantle.

What destroys the acid mantle?

Here are just a few things that can damage your acid mantle: Air conditioning. Harsh skincare products, like scrubs and soaps. Harsh weather.

Can damaged skin barrier be repaired?

You can help repair your skin's barrier by simplifying your skin care regime, using products with a suitable pH, and using a moisturizer that contains ceramides or a humectant like hyaluronic acid. Moisturizers with petrolatum can also help your skin barrier seal in moisture.
